Camp GooseChase

Does your daughter love the smell of horses, hay, and leather? Does her definition of happiness include being on the back of a horse? If so, then consider a summer with Camp GooseChase at Old Meadows Farm.

Camp GooseChase is a summer camp for girls who love horses and animals, and who want to experience the joy and satisfaction of spending unrushed summer days on horseback and in the barn. Each girl will actively participate in the daily care and training of our horses. Campers may bring their own mounts or use one of ours. In addition, when weather, wisdom, and need dictate, we'll participate in other aspects of farm life that could range from cleaning tack and stacking hay bales to gathering blackberries and making jam. Our primary focus, however, will be on the horses. We will devote ourselves to their training and their care, and to improving our balance, fitness, and ability to communicate effectively from the ground and when mounted.

Each session is designed to promote confidence and competence in a non-competitive setting. It does not matter if your child rides English or Western. Our goal is the acquisition of skills that will sustain a lifetime love of horses, regardless of discipline. Camp sessions are limited in size and focus on developing and enhancing skills suitable for safe riding, whether on the trail or in the ring. Activities include instruction in safety, first aid, fitness, training, and horse, barn, and pasture management. Our work with the horses will include ground work, round pen sessions, de-spooking, and negotiating trail obstacles. Daily riding and training sessions are progressive and adjusted as needed to meet individual training goals.

Barn Buddies - FOR THE YOUNGER RIDER!

This one-week, half-day program introduces children to basic horsemanship and life on the farm. It is ideally suited for the animal-loving younger child who wants to learn about horses and rural living. Activities include arts and crafts, time with the animals, and daily exploration of the farm's creek, meadows, and woods. Barn Buddies Camp is suitable for both boys and girls, ages 5-7.
