Prince (b. 6/24/08...d. 11/11/10) was an unexpected loss in early November 2010 due to colic. Our efforts to save him were in vain. His half-brother Sailor is still grieving his loss, as am I. He was a beauty with a wonderful personality, and we were all eager to begin his formal training in the coming months. It is always hard to lose a beloved friend, but even harder when it is one who was so young and had been raised here from the day he was born...
Older horses offer us many gifts, and in return, we offer them a safe and loving home for their final years. Saying good-bye is never easy, but it is a responsibility we take very seriously when we decide to bring a senior citizen into our family. They deserve no less after a lifetime of service. Jasper came to live with us in his golden years after retiring from life as a trail horse at Mountainview Ranch in Elkton, VA. He was always a gentleman and loved the attention he received at camp. He was a favorite of several campers and in particular, of my youngest daughter, Sydney. He will be sorely missed!
Sister Mary Helen was a cute older Welsh pony mare that we loved during our first few camp seasons. Although her time with us was short, it was memorable. Lucy misses her best friend, and we miss her distinctive, high-pitched whinny that greeted us each day. |
